In honour of Mandela Day, celebrated globally on 18 July every year, LANXESS South African sites take part in the Mandela Day celebrations.

LANXESS Greenstone spent time at Ratang Bana Orphanage, a non-profit organisation near its offices, that aims to support and empower vulnerable children with a focus placed on orphaned children and children affected and infected by HIV and AIDS.

LANXESS Chrome Mine donated the much needed baby products, clothes and educational toys and also dispatched employees with skills in plumbing and electricity to do general maintenance at the Grace Help Centre which provides refuge to abused and abandoned children, from all walks of life and races.

Jessica Engelbrecht, Centre Manager at Grace Help Centre in Rustenburg said, “I am very grateful and humbled by LANXESS mine’s gesture. As a centre staff, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude, joy and appreciation for the awesome difference LANXESS made in our lives, donating so kindly on Nelson Mandela Day”.

LANXESS CISA (Pty) Ltd invests in the local farming project in Newscastle

LANXESS CISA (Pty) Ltd. donated the travel irrigation machine and ploughing tractor as part of its corporate responsibility in the Newscastle area, where the LANXESS chrome chemical production plant is located, to help improve and sustain the quality of life of communities in which it operates.

The investment was also made towards the purchasing of poles and green house/net to protect the plants from wind, rains and frost . The project operates from a 20h farm which was purchased in 2008. Until LANXESS’ interventions, only 6 hectares were being used to plant and grow spinach, which is distributed to local entities, including supermarkets in and around the  Newcastle area.

The project beneficiary is Mr Oupa Nhlapho, whose 6 hectare land is being used to plant and grow spinach, which he distributes to local entities in and around the Newcastle area.

Accepting the machinery, an elated Nhlapho said, “I thank the Almighty for making this day a reality. I also thank LANXESS for going beyond energising chemistry to energising farmers. I cannot not take this opportunity and thank my mentor and friend Mr Petrus Boshoff and my colleagues, who have been of great help to me in growing this farm into being what it is today”.
