Agreement between LANXESS and NUMSA ends strike

Rustenburg – LANXESS and the National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa (NUMSA) today agreed to end the strike by workers at the LANXESS mine in Rustenburg. 

The company welcomes the agreement and is relieved that the conflict could be resolved successfully. During the entire strike it was the Company’s priority to bring all workers underground to the surface safely.

The strike activities started on the morning of June 19, 2019, when 290 NUMSA members embarked on an underground sit-in strike during their dayshift.  

LANXESS would like to thank the Union leadership as well the Minister of Mineral Resources Mr Gwede Mantashe and the Department of Mineral Resources for their efforts in assisting the company in resolving this matter.
