LANXESS is pleased to report that talks with NUMSA have resumed

The main priority for LANXESS is on resolving the current illegal strike activities and bringing all employees back to surface, well and safe, which is why the Company is pleased to report that talks with National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) have resumed.

We still however urge union leaders to encourage employees to return to the surface in the interim while talks continue.

The welfare of the employees is a concern for the Company, and medical assistance is immediately available as soon as an employee returns to surface. The LANXESS mine has ensured that the strikers can be supplied with food and medicine since the beginning of the illegal strike activities. The Company calls on NUMSA strike leaders to ensure distribution especially to workers in need.

The illegal strike activities started on the morning of June 19, 2019, when 290 NUMSA members embarked on an underground sit-in strike during their dayshift and refused several demands from the LANXESS mine to comply with the court interdict and come back on surface.
